Spoilers ahead for all books and seasons ofGame of Thrones!
There are few Tv shows more than talked near than HBO'sGame of Thrones.Throughout its five seasons, information technology'due south gone from an obscure fantasy series aimed at a niche audience, to one of the most-watched series on all of television. It fabricated its way to these lofty heights on the strength of solid writing, a diverse cast of Hollywood's best and brightest actors, and of class George R. R. Martin's source material novels. Later the concluding season though, fans have been clamoring to find out what happens next.
For reasons we'll get into soon, Flavour 6 will interruption new basis forGame of Thrones. Anticipation has never run college, news is beginning to trickle in about what's in store, and no ane but theGoTwriting team and showrunners know what will happen next. Whatdonosotros know? It's not much, but it's tough to keep the hat on entirely in the historic period of the Cyberspace. Details are offset to leak out, so hither's what we take then far. [Update, 2/fifteen/16: Added 'Game of Thrones' Season half-dozen: Hall of Faces Tease (see below).]
1. For the first time,Game of Throneswill wade into uncharted waters
Game of Thrones | Source: HBO
That new ground we were talking about? That'southward directly tied to the fact that Flavour 6 will be the first 1 not straight paralleled by 1 of George R. R. Martin'southward novels. With Martin yet working on the sixth volume titled The Winds of Winter, the show is set to lap the book series one time the new season kicks off adjacent Leap. Every bit of now,TWoWdoesn't even have a release date, so it's safe to say the HBO series isn't counting on Martin to end anytime shortly.
For the evidence, that means showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss won't be held accountable to the source material, costless to do just about annihilation they desire (under the advisement of Martin, having told them both how the next ii books will play out). At that place will no longer be a separation of volume readers and Boob tube watchers, every bit the two groups are now every bit as caught up.
2. The return of Bran and Hodor
Game of Thrones | Source: HBO
With tons to unravel in Season 5, the one thing we failed to go whatever closure for concerned the fate of Bran and Hodor (and Rickon too, only let's be honest, y'all probably forgot he was in that location until nosotros reminded you just now). When terminal we left Bran at the cease of Flavour iv, he had stumbled upon the Children, and onto the concrete embodiment of the 3-Eyed Raven. As it turns out, said Raven is actually an onetime man grown into a tree in a cave, and then needless to say we've been in demand of a scrap more than exposition for some time at present. Combine that with Bran running around with White Walkers (pictured above), we take a lot of unanswered questions correct now.
3. The Greyjoys
Game of Thrones | Source: HBO
In Martin's novels, entire chapters are devoted to the Greyjoys, post-obit the death of Balon, Theon's father. The books follow the Iron Islanders as they fight amongst themselves to choose a new leader. Characters like Euron and Victarion Greyjoy have been tragically left by the wayside in favor of other storylines in the HBO series, and many thought a pick had been fabricated to leave them out entirely.
As it turns out though, Season 6 will finally bring us back to the Atomic number 26 Islands, with Danish histrion Pilou Asbæk bandage every bit Euron. Ian McShane has too been bandage in a still-to-exist-revealed office, and so it'southward looking more and more like the Greyjoys will soon get a fundamental story thread onGame of Thrones.Additionally, footage from the beginning full-length trailer appears to show Theon himself having returned dwelling house to his family.
4. Jon Snow: Dead or live?
Game of Thrones | Source: HBO
The biggest question on everyone's minds post-obit the closing moments of Flavour 5 has concerned the fate of Jon Snow. When concluding we saw him, he was left bleeding out in the clay, betrayed and stabbed past the men of the Night's Watch. As a fan favorite, many accept but non wanted to believe him to be dead, although their hopes may actually be based in some modicum of practical storytelling.
Snowfall's role was built up as a sort of savior figure confronting the White Walkers, and to have him killed off earlier it'southward all said and washed seems like an odd selection. Combined with rumors from the set that a scene with Jon Snowfall, Ramsay Bolton, Sansa, and Littlefinger was recently merely shot at Winterfell, it seems probable that Jon yet lives. Fifty-fifty and so, HBO'south official synopsis for the season premiere doesn't mince words: "Jon Snow is expressionless," it reads, giving us petty hope that the fan favorite is somehow alive and kicking.
5. Other new characters
Game of Thrones | Source: HBO
We tin ordinarily get an idea for where a particular season ofGame of Thronesis headed based largely on its casting. As mentioned previously, nosotros'll exist seeing a whole lot of the Greyjoy family. Past that, in that location are also rumors that a casting call went out for Septon Meribald, evidenced by the need for someone to play "a gruff ex-soldier who found religion." For fans of the Starks, we're fifty-fifty going to see a return appearance of Ned Stark, admitting in a flashback with Sebastian Croft playing a 13-yr-old version of him. Joining the cast with the other new faces will be Richard E. Grant, in an unspecified role that nosotros imagine volition use the talented British actor to the fullest.
half-dozen. The premiere volition be arriving later than usual

Typically,Game of Thronespremieres in late-March/early-April, airing 10 episodes over 11 weeks. For Season 6 though, nosotros have nonetheless to get a concrete appointment for the debut episode. According to some back-of-the-napkin math fromAmusement Weekly, HBO's currently announced schedule of shows makes it impossible forGoTto begin whatsoever earlier than mid-April. The most accurate estimate pegs the premiere for late-April, which would button the show deep into the summer months for the beginning time in its history. [Update, 2/11/16: HBO has revealed that Flavour 6 will premiere on April 24.]
